I HAVE FOUND AN APARTMENT AND HAVE A MOVE-IN DATE!
So, I didn't have the energy to update yesterday. Mostly, because yesterday was an unmitigated disaster. Alex took half a day to go with me to look at the three complexes I picked on Monday. We met at her house at 2:00. We were done by 2:45 because all three were income restricted. DAMN IT.
We drove through the CFP/Orangewood area to see if there were any communities I hadn't looked at. We stopped at one called Venue, even though I knew I wasn't going to be able to afford it. I was right, it was way too much for me, but Tony, the gentleman that helped us at Venue, gave me a card for an apartment locator. Alex and I were already on our way to take a second look at a place I had already been to. We looked around there and got pricing. I was still pretty tepid about it. We went to Mission Club, where I lived when I was an intern. Okay, but meh.
So, we went to the apartment locator and realized that I had already done most of the legwork. Have you been here? Yes. What about? Yep. Well... Been There. It was pretty bleak. I was beginning to realize that I was going to have to suck it up (thanks,
starsfell) and pay more than I thought I could afford to get what I want. The locator gave me 4 places, all really outside where I was comfortable living. But, I decided to go look at the best candidate today. I also was really curious and wanted to know ballpark prices for one of the complexes that I visited the first day I went shopping (IN OCTOBER). She gave them to me and that really got me to go back, because maybe there were more specials.
So today (BTDUBS, IT WAS COINCOUNTAPALOOZA TODAY! BUT THAT'S A DIFFERENT POST.), I went to get pricing at Alta Corners (my second favorite place I've been to). They had a great deal on a second floor 2/2. A price pretty comparable to everything else I had been looking at. Whoa. I got chills. But, I wanted to be cool, and take a look at the other two places before I made up my mind.
I went to Cagan to get their updated pricing. Three things about Cagan. 1) Their prices aren't that great. 2) Even less so when you realize your rent goes up $35 if you need a washer and dryer. 3)I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY X2000 DON'T WANT TO LIVE AT CAGAN. I considered it because I thought it was an affordable option. So, meh.
I went to the place the apartment locator found for me after getting lost for like 30 minutes. Not a good start. Their 2/2 was smaller and more expensive than Alta Corners. And it was 30 minutes from work. And two tolls to get to work. Nuh-uh.
So, I called Alex and asked her to go back with me to Alta Corners, because she is my sounding board. We toured the model and no, I am not crazy. This is a great deal. Few cons. Many, many pros.
I put in my application, signed the hold paperwork and bounced out of the place with a shiny, (almost) new apartment! I move in March 13th! Before I even got Alex back to her car at work (6 miles), the lady at Alta Corners called and said my application was approved. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
I can't begin to tell you how excited I am!
On a hilarious note, I came home after buying Alex and Mark dinner, and told Matt that I had applied for an apartment (didn't mention that I'd already been approved). He said, WELL, IF THAT ONE DOESN'T WORK OUT, I'D REALLY LIKE IT IF YOU STAYED UNTIL AFTER I GET BACK FROM HAWAII (September) SO THAT SOMEONE WILL BE IN THE HOUSE. BECAUSE MIKE MAY BE TRAVELING A LOT ALSO.
TO WHICH, IN MY MIND I REPLIED, "NO THE FUCK WAY. THIS IS YOUR BED. YOU MADE IT. I'M OUT."
I guess I'll break it to him after he gets back from his business trip next week.
TL;DR I'M MOVING OUT BIG WEIGHT LIFTED OFF MY SHOULDERS OOG I HAVE TO GO PACK.
