First of all...I have lots of things to say about Dave's funeral, but I'm exhausted both physically and emotionally from the whole ordeal (I can only imagine what his family's going through). I called in yesterday because I just couldn't get out of bed. So I think I'll wait a little while and post some thoughts later. Besides, y'all were total troopers for getting through those last few posts. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] meyerlemon for the much needed and quite funny distraction.

Now...for some thoughts on last Friday's Battlestar Galactica.

I was disappointed for the wrong reasons. I had seen the promo pictures and was sure we were going to get to see Kara smile a bunch more...that's what I was looking forward to. I know. Maybe next week. But this was a great episode. I just haven't been as emotionally invested in the show as I thought I'd be.

Anyway, the one thing that gave me the chills was when Anders said they'd seen Cylons in uniform before. Especially with the knowledge that Gal!Sharon says there are eight more Cylons in the fleet. Eep! Although, I have to say, that's pretty good foresight on the Cylons part. That, if Gal!Sharon's information is accurate, they got all of their agents on ships that didn't get destroyed, by them. Or was Gal!Sharon just making it up to save the Chief? Or were they planted after the end of the world? Or were certain ships not destroyed for a reason? So many questions.

Dee was really interesting in this episode. I love that she has an informality with many of her officers. It seems like she might be the only one that could get away with it. But the updates with Apollo and the conversations in the head with Gaeta were just fun and brilliant. And she totally checked Lee out as he was entering the brig (Ron even said so!).

Ellen, the land shark, needs to be "accidentally" thrown out an air lock soon.

I love Doc Cottle! If ever anyone was the voice of the audience, it's him. I just love his "I don't get paid enough for this shit" attitude. "You're a lousy salesman." Hee. And the mocking Tigh to his face? Mwah. "Genius!"

When Lee was saying good-bye to the commander, I love that there was a musical call back to "Hand of God." It really fit the moment. On a different note, look at those hands! All I'm saying is that Bamber takes care of those things. And, good-bye??!?? Lee thinks he's never going to see his dad again?

Gaeta stood up for Dee!!! I don't know why he chose to do it, but I love him for it.

I've seen some comments about Kara the Pyramid Player, and why it is that they're trying to make her good at everything she does. I had that same reaction the first time I saw "Bastille Day." Shooting the guns on a plane and shooting a sniper rifle, while related, are two entirely different skills. But, IMO, Kara would probably take any learning opportunity provided to her and push herself to excel. It's one of those "if I'm good enough at this...maybe my parents will love me" attitudes. Even though she puts on the front of not caring, she does because it's inside her and she has to. And so, I have no problem with her being an awesome pyramid player (even, presumably, after many years of not training). I don't even have a problem with the bad knee taking her out of contention for the pros, because a bum knee while she was being scouted doesn't necessarily mean a lasting injury. She could have injured it in a minor way, but by the time it was healed she would have waited until the next year to join the pros and moved on to find the next thing she was good at (probably the military).

And, on another totally superficial note, Anders is left-handed and it makes me love him.

As much as I loved the musical call backs in the episode, I hated the one when Bill comes in to Tigh's quarters. It was the "Starbuck forgiven" music from "You Can't Go Home Again." Where the music between Lee and Bill in this episode was their's in previous episodes, the music here was originally for Kara and Bill, and it being used for Bill and Tigh yanked me out of the moment. I know what they were going for, but it didn't work for me.

Oh, and "Where's my son?" Wibble. Not, "Where's Captain Adama?" or "Apollo?" or even "Lee?" My son. Ouch. He just wants what's important now. Not worried about what Lee did so much as being thankful that he's still alive. This (even though I'm overly-infatuated with Kara) has got to be my favorite storyline. Just that simple father-son dynamic that keeps being shattered and repaired, only to be shattered again. It's really quite heartbreaking...and one of the reasons this is such a damn good show.

I really enjoyed the Cally as Jack Ruby aspect of the episode. These reminders of the past gives the show a feeling of being old and familiar. Just like Laura being sworn in, it gives context to a foreign world. Really nice.

And finally, I feel for Tyrol. Poor Tyrol. He's had quite a lot of crap dumped on him since the end of the world. I just want to give him a hug. And maybe a cookie. I find it very interesting that his father was a priest and his mother was an oracle. Interesting back story.
