Kara's age

I'm going to stop reading posts about "The Farm" because they (for the most part) make me want to cry.

But I do have a question to put out there. How old do you think Kara is? I've seen lots of 'mid-twenties' posts but... I think Kara has to be around 30 or older. Obviously Katee isn't, but Kara's got the academy, ocs, flight school, being a flight instructor, and being stationed on Galactica for two years.

I'm going to assume the academy works like US military academies. So she would have entered at 18 and spent 4 years there.

So let's say she went to OCS right after graduation (this is an internal point of contention for me, since in the US, you graduate an officer, but she says to Tigh in 1.03 she went, unless she was being sarcastic). I've gotten some conflicting information off the web about how long OCS is (from 4-8 months) so I'll just be general and say 6 months. Up to 22 or 23.

Flight school. Ah, flight school. I know I'm flying in the face of fanon, but I believe flight school has to be seperate from the academy. You don't graduate from Annapolis knowing how to fly an F-16. You've experienced duty stations and maybe life on a ship, but you haven't been in a cockpit extensively (if at all). I don't know how long flight school lasts, but I'm guessing it's at least one or two years. Up to 24 or 25.

Flight instructor. I refuse to believe Zak was in her first group of nuggets. Especially if she was as good an instructor as he (and his father) thought she was. Even so, I'll low-ball it and say one year. 25 or 26.

Then, as we all know, she spent two years on Galactica. 27 or 28.

And all this isn't taking into account the fact that she probably spent time between all these posts at other posts.

I don't think it's a stretch for Kara to be on the brink of or even past thirty.

Thoughts? Anyone ever heard any commentary about it?

Oooh.I like that thinking, really.

I've always thought she was at least 25/26, just randomly. I think she ends up seeming younger, because she acts... younger. Eh. I don't know. Whoot.

Well, it doesn't help that Katee IS that young. I guess at the end of the day it doesn't matter as long they don't kick her off the show. Heh.

I know Katee said that they were initially looking for an actress in her thirties, so you might be right. I'm not sure if they adjusted the age thing to Katee or not.

I seem to remember something in some commentary to that effect...but I just wondered if anyone had spelled it out.

I doubt it and while career wise it makes sense that she's older, I just can not buy Kara as being over 30. I think 27 is the limit for me. My theory is that she has only been stationed on the Galactica and as an instructor at the academy. Which is probably wrong, but it kinda works in my head so I won't overthink this... until canon decides to screw me over.
