Okay, gang, I need your help. Since all of you have much better taste in music than me, I need your help! I don't usually buy a CD unless it has 3 songs on it that I know are good, but my collection is so stale right now that I'm going crazy. I need some good tunes. That's where you come in.

Please convince me to buy (or talk me out of buying) the following CDs (and before you say anything about downloading...no, my computer and I have not yet reached the 21st century, therefore, I have no iPod, no MP3 player, get over it). Please tell me why you love or abhor:

Green Day - American Idiot
The Killers - Hot Fuss
Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News
Keane - Hopes & Fears
Jet - Get Born

I'm looking to purchase 3 or 4 in a sitting...any recs outside what I mentioned? I'm open as long as it's good stuff.

And, while I did leave the option open, you probably won't talk me out of buying American Idiot (unless you say it will make me want to kill my firstborn, then I might reconsider).

I love everything--especially Killers and Green Day--except Modest Mouse. Their lead singer has a really odd voice which grates on me.
"American Idiot" is a brilliant, political rant album, but there are several songs that totally aren't what you'd expect from a punk band.
"Hot Fuss" is marvelous; I love 8 of the 11 songs muchly. I listen to Franz Ferdinand a lot--not a bad song on the album. Jet is great, too.
Keane is the odd one out because it's more of a middle-of-the-road, adult contemporary band that has no guitars. I like it--in fact, I'm listening to it right now. But it is different from the others on your list.

No, that's cool. Different is what I need. I wasn't really going for all "punk," it just happened that that's what I was looking at on amazon (and I don't really own a lot of punk).

Crap, now I may have to buy five at a time. I love CDs that don't have a bad one on them...man, it makes listening to them 10X more enjoyable.
